FAQs

01

What if I’m not sure I have ADHD?

That’s completely okay, and very common. You don’t need to be certain or have a self-diagnosis before booking an appointment. Our physicians will listen, ask the right questions, and help you better understand what you’re experiencing. Whether or not ADHD is part of the picture, you’ll leave with greater clarity and a path forward.

02

Can adults be diagnosed with ADHD later in life?

Yes. Many adults are diagnosed later in life after years of symptoms being overlooked or misunderstood. A diagnosis can provide valuable clarity and help explain longstanding challenges. Our physicians are experienced in assessing ADHD across all ages.

03

Is your ADHD assessment comparable to private pay assessments? Will it be recognized?

ADHD assessments by licensed physicians in Alberta are covered under the public healthcare system and follow the same clinical guidelines used across the province — without the high out-of-pocket costs. Your diagnosis is fully recognized within the healthcare system. If you require documentation for a school or employer, acceptance may vary based on their individual policies.

04

Do you offer ADHD assessments for children?

Yes, our licensed physicians assess ADHD in children and youth. A parent or guardian can book an appointment on their child’s behalf, and no referral is required. If a diagnosis is made, we develop a personalized care plan that may include follow-up support, medication management (when appropriate), and documentation to support school accommodations.

05

Can I get medication support for ADHD?

Yes. If medication is appropriate, your physician can discuss options, prescribe when suitable, and monitor your progress over time. Medication is not the right choice for everyone, so we take a thoughtful, individualized approach based on your needs and preferences.

06

What happens after my ADHD diagnosis?

A diagnosis is just the beginning. Your physician will review your results with you and work collaboratively to develop a care plan tailored to your needs. This may include follow-up appointments, treatment options, referrals if needed, and documentation for school or work. You’ll have ongoing support every step of the way.

07

Do I need a psychiatrist or psychologist for an ADHD diagnosis?

In Alberta, physicians are qualified to assess and diagnose ADHD using established clinical guidelines (such as DSM-5 criteria). A psychiatrist or psychologist is not always required. If additional or more specialized assessments are recommended, your physician will guide you through the next steps.

08

Is my ADHD assessment confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is protected under Canadian health privacy laws (PIPEDA) and provincial regulations. Your personal health information is never shared without your consent, except where required by law. If you have questions, our team is happy to explain how your information is handled before you book.
