Are EaseCARE physicians and psychiatrists visits free of charge?
Yes, physicians and psychiatrists visits are covered with your Alberta Health Card if you are an Alberta resident.
Are all EaseCARE services offered online?
Yes, all of EaseCARE mental health consults are offered online from the comfort of your home. All you need is a computer and an internet connection. Don't have internet and/or a computer? No problem, our clinicians are able to offer their consults over the phone as well.
How does EaseCARE provide continuity of care?
EaseCARE doctors and mental health teams are available for follow up appointments or can communicate with your family physician as needed.
Are all EaseCARE providers regulated?
EaseCARE doctors and providers are regulated professionals by their respective colleges to ensure that they are providing safe and appropriate care to patients.
Are EaseCARE counsellors visits free of charge?
Unfortunately, counsellors visits are private pay. However, we are able to provide receipts for insurance purposes if the services are covered by your insurance. Keep in mind, physicians and psychiatrists services are still available to you Free of charge if you need mental health support and is unable to afford counsellors consults.
Who is a mental health therapist?
Therapists hold special degrees or certifications in their field. They help patients with a broad variety of mental health conditions and emotional difficulties. They primarily use counselling, also known as talk therapy, to facilitate personal change through self-knowledge, emotional acceptance, and growth with the optimal development of personal resources.
Do I need a referral to see an online therapist in Canada?
A family doctor can help with a recommendation but, no, you don’t need a referral to see an online therapist in Canada. Appointments on EaseCARE can be booked any time within 12 hours or less.

What should I expect in my consultation with a mental health therapist?
During your first consultation, you’ll be able to select any topic you wish to discuss with the Canadian-licensed online therapist. Then, the therapist will gather information about you and your history to properly evaluate your concerns and arrive at a plan to help guide treatment. Each session will be 50 minutes in duration.
What are the advantages of online counselling?
Online counselling allows you to access the mental health services of a therapist from the comfort of your home through video, phone call, or chat. There’s no need to find one near you since you’re accessing them from your device. You’re able to book a visit at a time that's most convenient for you. Or, you can choose to speak with someone as soon as possible — you'll hear back from the therapist directly in 12 hours or less.
Are mental health therapists on EaseCARE covered by insurance?
Many Canadian benefit programs cover the fee of consulting with a social worker (MSW RSW) therapist or registered psychotherapists (RPs) — check with your benefits provider to see if this is available to you. The therapist's license number and credentials will be on your EaseCARE receipt.
Can a mental health therapist diagnose mental illnesses or prescribe medications?
Mental health therapists and counsellors are not able to diagnose or prescribe any medications, as they are not medical doctors. Your treatment may consist of talk therapy, CBT, and other communication-based methods. However, a mental health physician can prescribe medication.
Can I see the same therapist every time?
Yes. To see the same therapist, you’ll need to book an appointment and select the same therapist each time.
What is the difference between a psychiatrist, psychologist, and psychotherapist?
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in mental health and psychiatric disorders. They undergo additional training and licensing so that they’re able to diagnose and treat mental illness. Psychiatrists focus on the physical causes of mental illness, as well as the mental health aspects, and can prescribe medications.
Psychologists and psychotherapists, however, are not medical doctors. Psychologists often focus on cognitive behaviour therapy and other behavioural strategies, while psychotherapists often focus on talk therapy. Psychologists and psychotherapists cannot prescribe medications.
Is online therapy good for anxiety?
There are many reasons to seek counselling, such as looking for online therapy for stress, anxiety and depression. Anxiety is one of the most common mental health problems for which people seek help, and online therapy can be an effective and cost-effective way to receive support.
Can online therapy help with stress?

Can I change my counsellor if I’m not satisfied?
Yes, you can switch counsellors by booking an appointment with a new provider through EaseCARE website
